July 17th is the final day to view Jameco Exchange at 82-62B 165th Street in Jamaica, Queens. Jameco Exchange is a site-specific art exhibit that celebrates the rich history and diversity of Jamaica, that features artwork by 22 individuals and groups. The works include ‘Jamaica Vibes’ a section of the exhibit curated entirely by teens and young adults and ‘Jimmy’s Thrift of New Davonhaime’ a thrift shop set in a fictional town. Jameco Exchange was made possible through a partnership between the non-profit organization No Longer Empty and the Jamaica Center Business Improvement District. The exhibit is completely free and open to everyone. The viewing hours are 12 pm to 6pm

Summertime in New York may be sweltering and miserable at times, but that doesn’t mean you should spend your days at home! Monday, July 11th
Manhattanhenge is a term famously coined by renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, referring to the phenomenon when the sun is aligned with the grid pattern of Manhattan’s streets. At 8:20 pm, you’ll be able to view the full sun on the horizon from any of Manhattan’s cross streets. But some of the best viewing spots include 14th, 23rd, 34th, 42nd and 57th Streets. Secure your spot as early as possible before the crowds get too big! In the “technology age” when di!erent gadgets are created at rapid speed, it’s nice to slow down and read a book – or in other cases, have a book read to you. Books Beneath the Bridge is a yearly event that has brought people together in the name of the written word since 2012. Authors representing some of Brooklyn’s best independent bookstores will read excerpts from their own works. This year’s event kicks o! at 7 pm on the Granite Prospect Steps. The first reading of the season is from Heather Wolf’s new book ‘Birding at the Bridge: In Search of Every Bird
on the Brooklyn Waterfront.’ Books Beneath the Bridge happens every Monday through August 15. Check out the full list of upcoming events.

Tuesday, July 12th
Today is the last day of the summer to see Manhattanhenge. See the half sun on the horizon at 8:20 from any of Manhattan’s cross streets. Some of the best places to see this natural phenomenon are detailed on this handy map, but keep in mind that these places will get crowded as sundown approaches! There will also be a special Manhattanhenge event at the Hayden Planetarium at 7 pm.

Wednesday, July 13th
Sometimes we need a moment to step away from everything and focus on our inner selves. The Big Quiet is a mass meditation event at SummerStage at Central Park. The event is hosted in partnership with Well + Good and The Infatuation. 2000 New Yorkers will gather for meditation and “sound bath” followed by live performances by musicians and DJs. This year’s mass meditation will also feature the first-ever Big Quiet local marketplace with food and goods provided by the Big Quiet community, including Sweetgreen, Inday, Splendid and much more! Thursday, July 14th
Check out the Fresh Fruit Festival, New York’s Celebration of LGBTQ Arts and Culture. On July 14th, enjoy ‘CHILD’S PLAY: An Evening of Short Plays,’ starting at 7 pm. The two short plays being performed are the New York premiere of ‘Planchette’ by Carolyn Gage and ‘AFLIC’ by Rachel Atkinson, Liz Bynum and Sean Pollock. Friday, July 15th
Come to Riverside Park, Pier I for the Films on the Green French Film Festival. On July 15th at 8:30 pm, there will be a screening of the 1972 French film ‘Un Flic,’ directed by Jean-Pierre Melville. This event is free and open to the public, and will be shown with English subtitles. Films on the Green screens French movies every Friday and some Thursdays through September 8.

Saturday, July 16th
If you’ve missed the past events, Untapped Cities is hosting another Wine Tasting and Tour at Rooftop Reds from 3 pm to 4 pm. Rooftop Reds is the first rooftop vineyard in the world, hidden atop a building in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. On the tour, sample some of the vineyard’s own wine and learn all about the methods to maintaining a rooftop vineyard in New York City. Enjoy beautiful views from the 14,800 square foot rooftop, while discovering insider secrets from one of the vineyard’s founders. All participants must be 21 and older to attend. From 12 pm to 6 pm at the City Reliquary in Brooklyn, bike lovers can gather to participate in a number of bicycle-themed events including demonstrations of bike tricks, information booths and a “Best Bike” competition.
